Candidates are required to record and upload on Youtube (set privacy settings to “Unlisted”) or Vimeo a non-edited video of themselves performing one of the 36 études transcendentales by Théo Charlier, chosen from the following:

No. 8, No. 12, No. 15, No. 17, No. 19, No. 21, No. 23, No. 27.

The link to the video will have to be submitted together with the online form when subscribing.

  • IMPORTANT! In this preselection phase, priority will be given to the musicality, expression and professionalism of the performance and the performer, and not to the absence of imperfections.

First round

Second round

1) Choose from (select one option):

(Memorized) performance of a baroque Sonata or Concerto on baroque trumpet. An organ player (positive organ) or harpsichord player will be provided. Tuning: A=415hz;

(memorized) performance of a jazz standard with improvisation (a jazz rhythm section composed of piano, double bass and drums will be provided by the Competition). Use of additional instruments such as cornet, flugel and others of the kind, as well as additional instruments is permitted;

(memorized) performance of a piece, improvisation or other musical performance, to be freely chosen by the candidate, in any style (“Whatever I am best at”). If an accompanying group or partner other than the ones mentioned above is required, it will have to be provided by the candidate. The use of any instrument is permitted as long as it falls within the family of high brass, as well as the use of additional instruments;
Candidates can also choose to play a piece for trumpet and piano.

Performance of orchestral excerpts taken from the Principal Trumpet parts of the following works. The Jury will make a selection and inform competitors on the day before the second round. You can download the excerpts on THIS page.

2)“Performance of the piece “Vulcano Club” for unaccompanied trumpet composed by the young Italian composer Piergiorgio Ratti.

Semi-final with chamber orchestra / Part one

(maximum of 8 candidates; after the first part the Jury will select and notify those candidates admitted to the second part)

(Memorized) performance of the Concerto in E Flat Major by Franz Joseph Haydn, using an instrument of the candidate’s choice (piston or rotary valve trumpet in any tuning)

Final with orchestra

(maximum of 5 candidates)

Performance of Concerto No. 2 by André Jolivet

The two parts of the Final Round will be separated by an intermission.
The prizewinners will be obliged to perform one of the works of the final round of their choice at the laureates’ concert that will take place the day after the Final Round.

The Final Round and the laureates’ concert will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Fantini Competition..

The prize-winners

will be required to interpret one of the pieces of the final of their choice in the concert of the winners that will take place the day after the final.
In agreement with the jury, however, it will be appreciated that the graduate candidates agree with each other in order to be able to present to the public at least one performance for each of the final pieces.

The final round and the laureates’ concert will be accompanied by the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese.
